Become a Classroom Docent
Our volunteer classroom docents are typically parents or family members of students, but other community volunteers are welcome! Each year Peninsula Hands On Art North Mason provides four art projects to students grade 3-5. Projects are taught by local artists via film and presented in the classroom by trained docents (you!). Classes are taught using professionally developed training materials including an educational film produced by Peninsula Hands On Art that incorporates art history and showcases the projects step by step process presented by our featured artist.
Here is how it works. On training nights one parent from each participating classroom comes to learn the lesson. They view a training film produced by Peninsula Hands On Art, and are taught first had how to do the project. Parent volunteers then have 7 weeks to coordinate with their designated teacher to facilitate the project in their respective classrooms.
Students are provided with artist quality materials and step by step film instruction from our guest artist while guided through the process of making each project by trained docents. Afterward each student has an original piece of art to take home or display in the school and a greater understanding of visual arts in culture and history as well as the enjoyment and reward of the creative process.
Please note that all classroom volunteers working in the classroom must have a current fingerprint record on file in their chosen school's front office).

We are always looking for new projects and local artists to help create them! If you have a great idea or fabulous art project, please contact
peninsulahandsonart@gmail.com. Projects need to cost out at $2.25 per project and be completed within a 2 hour time frame. PHOA provides a $350 stipend for our guest artists.
