"Heart of the Pacific"
Guest Artist: Kristin Page

Training Date: Tuesday / September 17, 2019 / 7-9pm / Belfair Elementary Gym

The salmon image is found throughout the Pacific Northwest. Students will learn about salmon and how they fit into our local culture and will paint a salmon suitable for framing.
Learning Goals:
       
  • The life cycle of salmon    
  • The roles salmon play in life and culture in the Pacific Northwest    
  • Techniques for painting and drawing

"Gargoyles - A History of Stone Waterspouts" "

Training Date: Tuesday / November 12, 2019 / 7-9pm / Belfair Elementary Gym

In this project students will explore the ways in which designers finish buildings with decorative and functional elements, and then create a gargoyle out of clay.
Learning Goals:
       
  • Historical and architectural significance of gargoyles and their function as water spouts    
  • Physical property of clay and 3D sculpting

"Hokusai Wave"

Training Date: Tuesday January 28, 2020 / 7:00-9:00pm / Belfair Elementary Gym

This lesson will explore the life and work of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. Students will create their own Hokusai Wave using oil pastels. Project will focus on shading techniques and the relationship between warm and cool colors.
Learning Goals:
       
  • Life and history of historical artist Katsushika Hokusai    
  • Design and creation of oil pastel Hokusai Wave    
  • Understanding the concept of warm and cool colors / use of oil pastels

"The Will to Quill"

Training Date:
Tuesday March 24, 2020 / 7:00-9:00pm / Belfair Elementary Gym

In this project students will learn the history and technique of paper Quilling and will create their own original piece of art inspired by nature.
Learning Goals:
       
  • History and evolution of "Quilling" or Paper Filigree    
  • Design technique of paper Quilling    
  • Recognizing and incorporating symmetry in art    
  • Local artist profile Ernie Donehower
