"Charcoal Still Life"
Artist: Jessica Rogg

"Still Life with Charcoal" is a study of still life drawing, and lighting utilizing the versatile medium of charcoal.
Learning Goals:    
  • Historical use of still-life paintings and charcoal drawings    
  • The unique properties of charcoal as a medium    
  • Value shading

    "Watt's Tower
    Artist: Mardie Rees

    Training Date: Tues. January 19, 2016 7-9pm / Harbor Heights Elementary School
    Training Date: Tues. January 26, 2016 7-9pm / Minter Creek Elementary School

    Students will understand Vernacular architecture and create their own wire towers on a mosaic base of clay in the style of Sam Rodia's towers in Watts.
    Learning Goals:    
  • Studying the life and work of American artist Simon Rodia    
  • Understanding the concept of vernacular architecture    
  • Learning techniques for working with wire and clay

    "Dot Code: Aboriginal Desert Painting"
    Artist: Ernie Donehower

    Training Date: April 6, 2016 7-9pm / Harbor Heights Elementary School
    Training Date: April 12, 2016 7-9pm / Minter Creek Elementary School

    In this project, Students will learn about the culture of the Australian Aborigines and do their own traditional dot paintings.
    Learning Goals:    
  • Learn about the history and culture behind Aboriginal dot painting and its symbols.    
  • Discover historical information about Australia.    
  • Learning the art of painting with "dots."
