Project Descriptions for 2008 - 2009
"Mix it Up Color Wheel"
Presenting Artist: Marty Hale-Evans
Training Date: Tues. October 7, 2008 7-9pm
EALRs: The Arts 1.1, 1.2, 3.3
This project will help students learn about the color wheel, color relationships and how to use color effectively in their art.
Learning Goals:
    Color mixing with paint
    What are Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colors
    What are complimentary colors, tints, and shades
    How to combine colors to create a desired effect
"Impressions from the Heart"
Presenting Artist: Charles Anderson, MD
Training Date:Tues. January 6, 2009 7-9pm
EALRs: The Arts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 3.1, 4.4
Students will learn the classic techniques to create one of the most popular forms of painting, impressionism.
Learning Goals:
    History of Impressionism and impressionist artists
    Using color to create images and forms
    The unique properties of acrylic paint as a medium
    Learn about artists in their community
"Smooth as Silk"
Presenting Artist: Odessa Poole
Training Date: March 3, 2009 7-9pm
EALRs: The Arts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 3.1, 4.4
This project will let students experiment with textiles and one technique to create designs in color. This will yield a hand-painted piece of silk (a great Mother's Day gift!)
Learning Goals:
    The history and culture of textiles, especially painting
    Working with fabric and dyes as a medium
    Using color to create either a design or image
    The value of textiles as wearable art
"Piecing it Together"
Presenting Artist: Tim Lowell
Training Date: April 28, 2009 7-9pm
EALRs: The Arts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 3.1, 4.4
Mosaics are one of the most ancient and timeless forms of art. Students will learn the history of mosaics and then create a beautiful mosaic trivet to use at home.
Learning Goals:
    Mosaics in history
    Using color effectively in a work of art
    Working with cold glass as a medium
    Design and decorative techniques
