Around America
"In, Out, Roundabout"
Training Date: Tues. October 5, 2010 7-9pm
EALRs: The Arts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 3.3, 4.2, 4.4, 4.5
In this project, students will learn some of the American culture and history of basket making, then make their own basket by weaving wire.
Learning Goals:
    History of basket making in America
    The role of baskets in American culture
    Everyday items as works of art
"Pieces and Patterns"
Training Date: Tues. January 11, 2011 7-9pm
EALRs: The Arts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.2, 4.4, 4.5
This project will teach students some of the American culture and history of quilt making, then piece together a quilt pattern using felt.
Learning Goals:
    History of quilt making in America
    The role of quilts in American culture
    Everyday items as works of art
"Spirit of the Southwest"
Presenting Artist: Odessa Poole
Training Date: March 1, 2011 7-9pm
EALRs: The Arts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.2, 4.4, 4.5
In this project, students will learn about the indigenous people of the American Southwest, the role of the Hopi kachina doll seen so often in that part of our country, and how to make one of their own.
Learning Goals:
    History and culture of the first people of the American Southwest
    Techniques for doll making
"Heart of the Pacific"
Training Date: May 3, 2011 7-9pm
EALRs: The Arts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 3.3, 4.2, 4.4, 4.5
The image of the salmon infuses many cultures found in the American Pacific Northwest; it plays a huge role in life here even today. Students will learn about salmon and how it fits into our local culture, then will paint a salmon suitable for framing.
Learning Goals:
    The life of salmon
    The roles salmon play in life and culture in the Pacific Northwest
    Techniques for painting and drawing
