"The Art Of The Forest"

Based on the work "Forest of Birch Trees" by Gustav Klimt students will learn to create their own Klimt inspired piece. Born in 1862 Klimt struggled over childhood poverty to significantly influence the Art Nouveau movement.

    Learn shading and creating texture through paint layering
    Understand horizon line, foreground, background, depth

"The Will To Quill"
Presenting Artist: Ernie Donehower
Training Date: Tues. January 8, 2013 7-9pm
Students will learn the history and technique of paper Quilling and will create an original piece inspired by nature.
Learning Goals:
    Understanding folk art and how it reflects culture
    The history and evolution of Quilling or Paper Filigree
    Recognizing symmetry in nature and incorporating the use of symmetry in art ( 3rd, 4th and 5th grades)

"A Push for Spring"
Repajado / Repousse Artist: Lisa Bosselman
Training Date: March 5, 2013 7-9pm
In this project, Students will learn basic metalworking techniques by embossing designs from nature onto a soft metal.
Learning Goals:
    Learn about the history and culture behind the Repajado technique that has been used around the world
    Basic metal tooling/embossing techniques
    Cultural images of the four seasons

"Under The Sea By Me"
Presenting Artist: Jo Ann Sullivan
Training Date: Tuesday April 30, 2013 7-9pm
Students will create a crayon resist watercolor masterpiece focusing on the partnership of students and the local waters of Puget Sound. Jo Ann will focus on creative imaging and how it relates to watercolor painting with an emphasis on watercolor technique, puddle painting and paint movement.

    Local watercolor artist highlight / Jo Ann Sullivan
    Achieve a greater understanding of color combinations and crayon resist
    Cultural images of the four seasons
    How partnerships benefit art and nature
