Students will design and create copper wire pendants based on the inspirational work of historical artist Alexander Calder. Students will learn simple metal-working techniques and get a chance to use the tools professional jewelers use. Project developed by local jeweler Kit Kuhn.

"The Magic of Molas"

Travel with Hands on Art to the San Blas Islands near The Panama Canal where Kuna people make and wear the most colorful MOLAS (decorated clothing) out of embroidery and fabric. Explore animal designs of the jungle (or your own imagination) and create ART using the MOLA-STYLE of both organic and geometric shapes, patterns and lines.

- Recognize organic and geometric shapes in art and create them yoursel
   
- Create a layered design and use bright colors to draw & collage a cut paper design

"Waste Not's"

One man's trash is another man's treasure! Inspired by the work of Pacific NW artist Marita Dingus students will make personal whimsical sculptures with wire and cloth and then decorate them with recycled and found objects. Old CD's, ribbon, shells….time to clean out the junk drawer!

"The Art of Sumi-e"

In this project, students will learn about the Japanese art form of Sumi-e painting. Each child will have the opportunity to work with artist grade supplies to create their own masterpiece based on the work of local Sumi-e artist Lois Yoshida.
