"Piecing It Together"
Guest Artist: Scott Markowitz

Training Dates:
Presented: October - December / 2020

Peninsula Hands On Art's "Piecing It Together" project introduces students to "Mosaic" art, the historical style of art where an object is decorated and covered with small pieces of another material, usually glass or stone. Beautiful examples from around the world and creative instruction from local artist Scott Markowitz will inspire students to create their own mosaic trivet masterpieces out of pieces of glass tile, and for older students, objects found around the house.

"Harbor Heritage Pen and Ink"
AGuest Artist: Jessica Rogg

Training Dates:
Presented: January - March / 2021

Students will learn about the history of the Gig Harbor Fishing Fleet as well as the process of translating a photo into an illustration. Using pen and ink, students will draw a scene featuring the "Heritage" fishing vessel, which is part of Gig Harbor's rich fishing background. Basic instruction of line drawing and pen and ink techniques will be introduced.

"Agamographs"
Guest Artist: Robert Sanchez

Training Dates:
Presented: April - June / 2021

A look into the work of Israeli artist Yaccov Agam best known for his contributions in optical and kinetic art. Students will create their own optical art based on warm and cool colors.

"The Art of Sumi-e"
Guest Artist: Lois Yoshida

Training Dates:
Presented: April - June / 2021 (If schools are open to in person learning)

In this project, students will learn about the Japanese art form of Sumi-e painting. Each child will have the opportunity to work with artist grade supplies to create their own masterpiece based on the work of local Sumi-e artist Lois Yoshida.
